Welcome to St Bartholomew’s!

known as "the Cathedral of the Colne Valley"

We are a friendly group of Christians meeting regularly in this beautiful Parish Church, set in the lovely Pennine village of Marsden.

We would love you to join us in our worship and to take part, with us, in this spiritual journey of exploration of the Christian faith.

We are delighted to welcome Revd Graeme Holdsworth's appointment as Vicar of St Bartholomew's Marsden, St James Slaithwaite and Shred Chapel.  He was licensed at a service on Tuesday 18 February at St James Church, Slaithwaite and his first service with us was on 23 February.  We are all looking forward to working alongside him in our Joint Benefice.

St Bartholomew's and Coronavirus

The Church of England, along with other religious bodies, has decreed that there will beno public worship during the current crisis.  Our Church building will be open from 9.00am to 10.00am on Sundays and Tuesdays for private prayer, reflection, peace, quiet and hopefully some comfort at this difficult time.  We only ask that you observe guidelines regarding physical distancing - leaving at least 2 metres between each other.  Our Priest will be saying private prayers during these times.

Our Annual Church Meetings - originally arranged for 29 March - are also postponed until further notice.

We are still supporting THE WELCOME CENTRE at the Methodist Mission in Huddersfield. This is a food bank for families in crisis that are referred to them by frontline professionals.

If you wish to contribute to the food bank's work there is a box at the back of church for your contributions. You can bring items any time the church is open - Sundays (9.00-10.30am), Tuesdays (9.15 -10.15am).

At present they are particular short of:

Tinned meat meals, tinned fish, tinned vegetarian foods, tinned corned beef/ham, stock cubes, dried mash, jam, jars of paste, instant noodles/rice/pasta, sugar, as well as toiletries, posts and pans and bedding.  For full current list see -

Thank you for your support.

From 2014, we are very grateful for the suppport of The Heritage Lottery (for our ongoing Marsden Remembers World War One Project) and The Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund for repairs to the roofs over the aisles, vestries and Lady Chapel, and replacement of our rainwater goods.
